Two Devices in One 19" Row

This one is background rather than a procedure. A 19" Modular mount fills the rack width as a pair: your device on one half, a plain blank on the other. People regularly ask whether that blank can hold a second device so two share one U instead of using two. It can, and this is how to get it.

What to do

Tell me which two devices you want in one row and I will print the matching pair. There is no extra charge beyond the two mounts themselves.

  • Buying both now: put them in the same order and say in the order notes that you want them as one row. I check for it before anything reaches a printer.
  • Already own one: message me with the mount you have and the device you want beside it.

Why it is worth telling me first

The seam is not symmetric. One half carries the threads and the other has the clearance holes the screws pass through, and every mount ships as one of each. That is why a mount on its own always goes together.

It also means the pair you end up with depends on which mounts you buy. Tell me what you want in the row and I will make sure the halves I print bolt to each other, instead of you finding out after it arrives.

What has to match

  • Rack size. Both have to be 19" mounts. A 10" mount does not pair with anything.
  • U height. 1U pairs with 1U, 2U with 2U. They do not mix.
  • Combined width. Both devices have to fit inside 19" once the ears are accounted for. Two small devices are never a problem. One wide device plus anything usually is, and I will tell you before you pay.

Once it arrives

It assembles exactly like a normal Modular mount, so follow the Modular guide. The only difference is that both halves have a device in them, so you are fitting two devices in Step 4 instead of one.

Changing it later

Nothing is glued. Four screws hold the seam, and either half can be swapped for a different one without touching the rest. If you replace one device in a year, you need one new half, not a new mount.
