Fitting Keystone Jacks
About 5 minutes
For any mount ordered with keystone jacks. The holder is printed into the rack face as part of the mount, so there is no separate patch panel and nothing to glue.
What is in the box
- 1 x keystone jack per position you ordered.
- 1 x short Ethernet cable per jack.
The jacks and cables are included in the price. You do not need a punch-down tool.
Fit the jacks first, on the bench. Once the mount is on the rails you are doing the same job reaching into the back of a cabinet.

Step 1. Clip the jacks in
- Hold the mount so you are looking at the back of the faceplate.
- Line a jack up with its printed opening.
- Push it forward until the latch clicks.
- Repeat for each jack.
Check: the jack sits flush from the front and does not rock in its opening.
A firm push is expected, force is not. The opening is printed to a tight tolerance. If it feels like something is about to break, stop and message me. I would rather send a replacement piece than have you crack one in.
Step 2. Assemble and rack the mount
From here it is the same as any other mount.
- 19" Modular: join the two halves, bolt the seam, then bolt it into the rack. See the Modular guide.
- 10": it goes straight onto the rails. See the 10" guide.
The device still goes in last, after the mount is bolted to the rails.
Step 3. Patch each jack to the device
- Plug one of the supplied cables into the back of the jack.
- Run it to the port on your device.
- Leave a small loop of slack behind the mount.
That is the point of the keystone: the port you actually plug into now lives on the rack face instead of somewhere behind the gear.
Do not pull the patch lead tight. A taut cable behind the mount loads both the jack's latch and your device's own port.
Troubleshooting
The jack will not click in
Check you are coming from the back of the faceplate, not the front.
The jack clicks in but rocks
Only one latch has caught. Press it out from the front, line it up square and push again.
The supplied cable is too short
Any patch lead works. The one in the box is sized for the shortest sensible run.
A jack or cable is missing
Message me with your order number and I will post it the same day.
Adding keystones to a mount you already own
The holders are printed into the face, so a mount without them cannot have them added. A keystone version is a different part. Message me with what you have and how many jacks you want, and I will tell you whether that design already exists or needs building.
